FINAL MUSIC VIDEO - FIX YOU - JACOB TABART

The process of filming and editing this music video I feel as though I have developed my skills, I filmed more in this coursework compared to my AS coursework as I wasn't in as many of the shots, this helped me gather a better understanding of different camera shots and angles.

I also edited a lot more, I begun with editing different production diaries and a storyboard and then with the help of my group I was able to develop my editing skills, I didn't feel very confident at editing when I finished my AS coursework but this year I done some research and watch my group edit and picked up some of the techniques. I now feel as though I am confident at editing.

I learnt from this that the camera shots are a very important aspect, you have to make sure you have all the angles covered to ensure that you have the best result possible, we decided to film extra angles to ensure that we had options when it came to putting all the footage together.

FINAL DIGIPAK POSTER

When creating the poster I felt more confident using PhotoShop because I had previously used it to create the digipak, I researched different posters to see what aspects they included and then tried to ensure that I had all the 'needed' features of a music poster.

I learnt new skills on this program such as removing the background from an image and adding different edits to them which was useful for both the poster and the digipak, I feel very confident using PhotoShop now, considering it was my first time using the program.

FINAL DIGIPAK

When editing the digipak I decided to take control to begin with as I had never used PhotoShop before and wanted to become more familiar with the program. I first played around with the different tools and edits and then started to edit the images that we had previously shot.

I researched how to make different aspects of images in black and white and other aspects in colour, this was difficult at first but once I knew how to do it, it then became an easy edit. I added all the images that I though were best and then edited them and showed them to the group, from this we gave each other feedback and then decided to see if there was another edit that we could add also. We like the back and white and colour but once we looked through the edits we found a cartoon style that we liked and added that too, we felt that this was a different effect that will fit the indie genre and also be different to make it stand out.

I enjoyed editing the digipak because I learnt new skills and felt that as a group we created a good design that is effective for the genre and there is clear synergy running throughout our media products.

Prop - UPDATE

Prop update by Jemma Ward x

After filming and audience feedback be decided to add a performance section this is so that it fits the genre better, this prop is a key convention of an Indie music video because they pretty much all include a musical instrument. Having Todd play the music instrument helps the audience understand that he is the artist and not just a character.

Crew, filming schedule - production diary

This production diary explains how we decided to spread the work load and the crew that we have, we decided to have our group as the only crew because we know that we will be reliable and will get the best results possible to help us create a good music video.

Effectiveness of the storyboard

Focus group - Final music video

This is a focus group which we done with a selection of our fellow peers, two of which study media, we decided to show the group our final music video and then ask for some feedback, it is important that we do this as it helps us know what other people think, especially as they are in the age that we are targeting.

The feedback in which we received was positive, they all agreed that there was clear synergy throughout all aspects of the artist, this was good to hear as we wanted to ensure that it was clear to see who the artist was and the image that we wanted to share with the audience.

The group we asked seemed to all agree that there was certain aspects that were noticeably very good, such as a few transitions and different shot ideas, they all said that they liked the fact our music video had a nice balance between narrative and performance but the narrative wasn't over powered and was clear to understand which we was very pleased with as the narrative was something that as a group we worked hard to achieve.

Production diary filming

This is discussing the different locations that we had selected, which was London, we decided to use Shore-ditch as we felt that it fitted the Indie genre well, with all the graffiti walls and 'edgy' areas. I then discus an unplanned filming day in which we filmed on the school premises, we decided we wanted to add a performance because after further research it became very clear to us that this was a key conventions of an Indie music video, so we scouted around the Brentwood area for a location but nothing caught our eye then when coming back to school we noticed a wall that we felt would fit n well with the video and create good synergy.

Focus group - Draft 2

We decided to do a focus group after the second draft, this was to get feedback on the added aspects, the first question we asked was about the added performance section, it was clear to myself and the people in our focus group that the performance section really wasn't of the same quality as the other footage, following the focus group we decided to re-film this and ensure it was of better quality to fit in with the other shots we have.

We then went on to ask about the effect in which we added to the female characters shots, Jody said that she liked this effect because it she felt it made the character look like someone which you want to be, it makes them look 'special'. Following the focus group we decided to keep this effect on each shot of the female character.

Then we went on to ask if they think the performance distracts you from the narrative, to which Jody answered no, she said she thinks that it adds to the video and that it doesn't distract you from the video, it makes it better to connect with the artist, she then suggested we changed the colour of the video to make it clearer that it isn't part of the narrative, following the focus group we took Jody's suggestion into consideration and made the performance section 'black and white'.

Finally we asked whether or not the lip syncing is in time and looks good, to which we got  positive feedback, Billie said that it look realistic which we was pleased with as we was trying to achieve this.
